Steps to Increase your Gas Mileage

Gas prices are always going up, and your car might not be the most efficient vehicle out on the road today. But, even a car that gets 20-40 miles a gallon will rack up gas bills. What can you do about it?

There are actually a few things you can try if you’re trying to increase the gas mileage of your vehicle. The first tip is to reduce excess weight by not carrying around a bunch of extra stuff in your car. This will also give you more room next time you run to the store! Next, keep your tires properly inflated. If they seem a little low, give them a bit more air. This will make for better gas mileage and a smoother ride.

Also, replace your air filter and spark plugs every so often. It helps your car last longer and it will help your engine burn gas more efficiently. It’s typically about $50 if you want to do it yourself. Also, use the recommended motor oil. These recommendations aren’t made by manufacturers “just because”, there is good reason to follow them and one of those reasons is improved gas mileage!

Finally, be sure to check the seal of your gas cap. The rubber will break down over time, which will let oxygen get into the tank. This will cause the engine to burn more gas, decreasing your gas mileage. Check it and replace it as needed.
